Kitchen Refacing

What is kitchen refacing & the process?

Kitchen refacing is the process of replacing cabinet skin panels to give your kitchen a dramatic new look.

Any kitchen can be refaced, you can choose to reface your cabinets with wood veneer to keep a traditional look or choose laminate to reface your cabinets almost any color you want for a modern look.

When refacing, an installer removes the doors and drawers but leaves all shelves in place (See photo on left). Any hanging microwaves and hood vents will be removed for the process and reinstalled at the end of the job. All appliances will either be removed from the work area or be left in place and thoroughly protected.

The cabinets then get sanded down or stripped to bare wood (see photo above). This will create some mess but our installers go to great measures to ensure all mess remains in the work area.

Once the cabinets have been properly prepped, contact adhesive is brushed on to all faces and sides (sometimes bottoms). Pieces of laminate or veneer are then cut and fit to the size of the cabinets and also brushed with adhesive on the back. Once both the cabinet and material are dry, the piece is fit on to the cabinet and pressure rolled to ensure full stability.

Using a router, the laminate/veneer is cut flush to the cabinet and reveals the openings. The corners and edges are then filed to be smooth.

Lastly the cabinets are put back together. The thermal-foil doors, drawer fronts, and maple hardwood dovetail drawer boxers are installed with soft closing hinges and drawer slides. Any and all moldings will be installed and caulked. Your hardware of choosing will be installed last.
